The Manaia branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance* Union held its July meeting at the Methodist Church, where there was a very fair attendance. Correspondence regarding Air.' Isitt’s Bill for Bible-leading in Schools was discussed. Reports were .received on the satisfactory results of recent efforts to improve the union’s finances, and of the annual district convention hold lately at Waitara, and some discussion ensued on carrying on methods suggested there. It was deeded to send a donation to the Dunedin branch to help with the creche it has undertaken to furnish and manage at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. It was reported that -.subjects had been chosen for the essay, and live minutes’ speech prizes offered to Lhe Young People’s Club. viz. : “Effects -jt Alcohol on the Human Body” for the first, and “The New Zealand Drink Bill” for the second. The names of four new honorary members and one ordinary member were given in and two more promised. At the close of the meeting afternoon tea was enjoyed in the vestry. MINIATURE RIFLES.
A miniature rifle match fired at Alanaia last night between Maim in. and Oeo resulted in a win for Alanaia, the scores being 494 to 437. Details follow :
