The Hawera Amateur Athletic Club wrote for permission to use the road through the township for a bicycle race on Wednesday, July 29.—1 t was resolved that permission, be granted. Mr. W. Hair’s application for a renewal of his slaughter license was also granted. It was decided to procure several yards of chips for tar blinding purposes. Mr D. Henderson waited on the board anil asked that a culvert be put in at the junction of Mountain Hoad and Von Tempsky Street.—The matter was left- '.in the hands of the W orks Committee, with power to act. As several holes are beginning to show in the main road, it was considered to be necessary to procure a new tar tank, so that patching could be proceeded with when the weather was suitable. The clerk was instructed to write and obtain the nrices of concrete pipes. Rates for* the current year were struck as follow: Town district rate 2d in the £ and county rate 2d in the £ on the basis of unimproved value. It was left with the chairman to procure what gravel was required for the footpaths in the main street. The clerk was instructed to write to the Hawera Electric Light Company, drawing their attention to the unsatisfactory state of the lights within the township. Accounts to amount of £42 16s 6d were passed for payment.

LECTURE

It is a pity there was not a larger attendance to hear the interesting and able address given by Mi’. Woods, M.R.C.V.S., of Waitara, under the auspices of tii<. Nornia-nby branch of the Farmers’ Union. In his remarks Mr. Woods dealt with all the principal ailments of horses, cattle, pigs,, etc.; but contagious abortion was the subject. which was dealt with principally by the lecturer, and in this connection he ini oar ted valuably information to those present.
