ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) SCHOOL BALL. After much thought and work the Scnool Committee and other helpers were amply rewarded for their efforts by the very successful nature of the cnildren’s plain- and fancy dress ball held in the Town Hall last evening. The function was arranged for the purpose of providing funds for improving the grounds at the new school. The children had also made special preparation for the dance, and had been learning diancing after their lessons for the day were finished. They had all been planning how to present the best fancy dress, and great was the excitement last night, some of the children arriving at the ball at about 6 o’clock, and long before the doors opened there were hundreds of happy, excited, children and parents waiting to gain admittance,

The first part of the evening was given to children’s dances andi the presentation of prizes, and after about 10.30 the adults were given their chance to enjoy' themselves. The hall Was beautifully decorated, and a very enjoyable supper was provided. The prizes, which were donated by Messrs * Bary, AVylds and Ricketts (boys). Mesdames Waldron, H. Nodder and Marchant (girls), and Mesdames Thornhill and Jardine and Messrs D Clement and Carson (tiny tots) were won by the following: Girls unde»’ 7. —D. Jackson (Danger Signal) 1, Theo. Tim nrizes were presented by Lady Carn-ross. The indues for the fancy dresses were Mesdames Goodson (Hawera). Paterson (Kapuni) and Petty (Matanu).
