TO MEND A CARPET.
Here is a method of mending a wool pile rug or carpet, and making it look well and last twice as long, when it is wearing the pile and showing the back. Double the rug or carpet to a fold in the place you want to mend, the pile being on the outside. Hold the edge away from you, and fill a darning needle with wool the same colour as the pile you are mending, then lay a thick knitting needle along the edge, and overcast close stitches over the knitting needle, just catching through the back of the rug. When you have filled in what is needed, lay the rug out flat, pull out the knitting needle which will leave little loops, cut through the tops with sharp pointed scissors and trim to the same length as the'other pile.
