CUR,RENT YEAR’S ESTIMATE'S. (lil TELEGRAPH PRESS A ZSOCIATJ ON’SyELLINIGTON, July 22. The C-ity Council has adopted the estimates for the current year, providing for an expenditure of £248,217, plus a special contingency fund ol £20,620 which will be available .for use on any unexpected works. There >.s no increase in the rates, except in the case of that for hospital and charitable aid purposes, over which the council has no control. Labour members protested that the outlying districts did not receive the attention +,hey deserved, that tlie public was being misled through works being scheduled and then dropped on the ground that there was no money for them. Miramar was growing more rapidly than any urban area m the Dominion, and provision of drainage there was a most urgent necessity., The estimated receipts were £268,837.
