A Hamilton message states that Mrs Young, wife of Air J. A. Young, M.P., who was knocked down by a motor-car on Friday night and seriously injured, is progressing favourably, and the'doctors are hopeful for her recovery. The many friends of Air J. E. Campbell will be interested to learn that he and his wife and two nieces are having a very enjoyable time on their tour of the Pacific Islands. He has left Fiji for Honolulu, and speaks very favourably of the habits and hospitality of the natives of the islands he has visited. He expects to return to Hawera about the midd’e of September. A Reuter message from Quebec reports the death of Cardinal Begin, Primate of Canada. The late, Most Rev. Louis Nazaire Begin, D.D., was born in Canada in 1840, and completed his education at the Seminary of Quebec and at Rome. He was ordained at the age of 25, and became Bishop of Chicoutimi in 1888. Pie was appointed Archbishop of Quebec in 1894 and became a Cardinal in 1914. The late Airs B. Espagne, who died this morning at the age of 82, was one of the eldest inhabitants of Haivera, where she resided almost continuously for the past 52 years. She came to New Zealand over 60 years ago. in the saPing ship Pegasus, and, together with a number of early colonists, landed in Auckland, and for a period lived in Wanganui, and saw much of the activities then occasioned, by the Maori War. Airs. Espagne saw Hawera grow from a mere village to its present dimensions. She lived a retired life, and was a muchrespected citizen of the community. She is survived by three daughters and one son.
