TOWN .HOARD MEETING
THE GENERAL RATE
A special meeting of the Manaia Town Hoard was held last evening. Commissioner J. Hickey (deputy-chair-man) presided, others* present being. Crs V. H. Hobday, J. A. G. Cosgrove, S. H. Greaves, C. Junes and W. J. Hadley (clerk). An apology for absence was received from the chairman iCr L. G. Nielson). The question of the rate for the ensuing \ear was considered. The clerk explained that estimated expenditure amounted to £3630. To meet this, after allowing for revenue from sources other than rates,. a general rate of 2d would be required, in addition to the water and sewerage rate of 3d. On the motion of Crs Hobday and Greaves it was decided to give notice of intention to strike a general rate of 2d. the rate to be confirmed at the ordinary monthly meeting on August G. FIRE HR IGA DE MATTERS. Superintendent G. "White and 13 other members of the Fire Brigade waited on the meeting, and a roundtable discussion ensued roneerning Die affairs of the brigade. Messrs A. Franklin. C. Hunger and F. 0. Oliisiiall, members of tlie Fire Hoard, forwarded apologies for absence. The general discussion was taken in committee. On conclusion it was announced that the board had agreed to purchase equipment to the value of £45, comprising 300 feet of hose, three sets of couplings, six helmets and one hog’s nose respirator, and also to obtain an estimate for painting plug indicator posts white with a black band. On the motion of Cr Hobday, who complimented the brigade on. its efficiency, a vote of thanks to its members was carried by acclamation. GENERAL.
As no applications were received for the position of town ranger, the chairman and clerk were authorised to deal with the appointment. No tender., were received for the vmrehase of the municipal sections advertised for sale. —It was decided that no further action he taken for the present. An n indication received from G. H. Edwards on behalf of A. IT. Clare for nermission to erect a dwelling and business premises in the main, street to the value of £BOO was granted, subject to the usual conditions. Permission to ere A a guard fence across the frontage was also granted.
