A BOY DROWNED. (BY TELEGRAPH —VRESS ASSOCIATION. TAUMARUNUI, July 17. Philip Samuels, aged 19, of Nihoniho, was drowned yesterday in the Ohura river. Deceased and a mate were crossing the river in a punt, aided by a rope pegged from bank to bank. Deceased was pulling the boat across, and when quite close to the bank fell into the river and disappeared. No trace of the body was found till late yesterday afternoon. LYONS DEPARTS. WELLINGTON, July 17. After being a fortnight in gaol Noel Lyons, who was sentenced to nine months for refusing to leave New Zealand as directed under the Undesirable Immigrants Exclusion Act, was. a passenger for Sydney by the Moeraki to-day, apparently having been re-, leased by his giving an undertaking not to return. MISHAP TO FERRY STEAMER. WELLINGTON, July 17. A mishap occurred to the harbour ferry steamer Muritai when it was being put into the water from the patent slip at Evans Bay this morning. The vessel had been up for overhaul, and when coming off the crrtdle the tail shaft became dislodged. The water poured in through the aperture. The beach nearby being sandy, it was decided to beach the ship.

LYTTELTON FERRY SERVICE. ’ WELLINGTON, July 17. Tlie Wahine resumes running in the Lyttelton ferry service on July 31. The Wahine and the Maori will maintain the service continuously, except when either is being overhauled, when the Mararoa will relieve. EIRE AT ROTORUA. ROTORUA, July 17. A fire gutted the Kensington tearooms in Fenton Street at 2.45 this morning. The structure was little damaged, but the stock, furniture, and soda fountain equipment are a total loss. The shop is the- centre of a highly inflammable block. The brigade mastered the fire within ten minutes.
