The first match of the Australians’ hockey tour was played here to-day. when Australia met and defeated Maiiawatu hv 3 goals to 2. The game was fast and scientific, and the home team proved well worthy of the visitors-' attention. Nevertheless the latter .were at a great disadvantage through their boat having arrived a day Fate in Wellington. The result was that they had to take the field without having had any practice.
