DAIRY RESEARCH
SEEKING STATE AID
CASEIN MAKES A CLAIM.
A WANGANUI REQUEST,
(By Telegraph—Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, July 15.
The Minister for Agriculture was approached by a large deputation introduced by Mr W. A. Veitcli (Wanganui), and including members of Parliament and dairy factory representatives, with the object of securing a substantial Government subsidy for a laboratory in connection with the dairying industry at Aramoho. The Minister was reminded that the Government had promised up to £IOOO annually for three years to establish a research laboratory for dairy industry in South Taranaki. The factories represented on the deputation sent supplies to the caseiu factory at Aramoho from North and South Tarauaki and Wanganui, and they thought it reasonable that, as butter and cheese production was to be heavily subsidised, research in connection with casein might also fie helped. The existing laboratory at Aramoho cost £7oo' annually. The Minister, in a sympathetic reply, said he would give the matter consideration. At the same time, he felt doubtful if he would be warranted in spending more money in this direction during the current financial year.
