ORIGINAL SETTLERS.

HOW MANY SURVIVE? QUERY FROM MANAIA. (To the Editor.) Sir. —It may be of general interest to look back a few years and see who are still alive of those who took up land in this district originally, and how many there he who still live on their original holdings. Of these latter the only ones I know are Air. Samuel Cox (Opunake) and Air. Fred Swadling (Kaponga). There may be others of whom Ido not know. Of those who still hold the sections, but do not now reside on them, are Air. ‘ Alan Grace (now New Plymouth), Air. George Holland (now New Plymouth), Air. David Astbury (now Mangatoki), Air. Jacob Meuli (now Alanaia), and myself. If any of your numerous readers know of any others I shall be pleased to hear of them through the Star. —I am, etc.,

ROBERT GIBSON Sutherland Road, Alanaia.
