PATEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent). S.M. COURT. The monthly meeting of the Magistrate’s Court was Jield here on Friday last, Air. J. S. Barton, S.M., presiding. J. M. Clarkson was charged with removing drift wood from the Patea heads without the authority of the Harbour Board. Air. Rutherford appeared for the board, and stated that the board had advertised that no wood was to be removed from the heads without permission. In this ease the timber had been removed from a place where it was required to protect the channel. The board was not on this occasion asking for a heavy penalty, but had brought the case as a warning to residents. Defendant, who pleaded guilty, was lined os, together with costs amounting to 17s Gd. Judgment by default was given for plaintiffs, with costs, in the following cases: —C. F. Pulley, Ltd., v. E. H. Chatfield, £9 11s 3d; Patea Borough Council v. Jesse Hills, £2 18, s Gd, costs onlv; AfcGartv and Hunger v. Tuki Kahn. £lO 16s Gd. G. W. Beere proceeded against AY. Paterson to recover £1 15s 2d, balance alleged to be due for wages, and Pater, son filed, a counter-claim for c-orn sacks removed and rent of ground occupied by wood belonging to plaintiff and left there for some time after be (plaintiff) had ceased to live on the property, and also for los.s of some pullets. After hearing the evidence submitted, the Bench nonsuited both side s without costs. FOOTBALL. The P.AY.D. football team tried conclusions with the Patea juniors on the local ground on Saturday last, in solendid weather. Fast and willing was the order of the day. and the teams were evenly matched. The game ended in favour of the home team by 13 points to four. Air Frank AfcKenna refereed.
