MBS. JAMES CRAIG. After a short illness, Mrs James Craig, for manj' years a well-known and respected resident of Alanaia, yesterday passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs E. Meuli, ot South Road, Hawera. The -late Mrs Craig was horn at Inverness, Scotland, 65 years ago, and came to New Zealand with .her parents when quite a child. She was educated at JVferton prim-arty school and: the Otago Gills’ High * School, and s-pent most of her married life in Otago and Southland. She was very bright intellectually, and of a most energetic disposition. Being of a literary turn of mind, Mrs Craig, in her earlier years, took a keen interest in educational matters, and was a frequent contributor to the Press of the Dominion. Mr Orr, the schoolmaster who taught her at Merton, and is now living in retirement in Taranaki, speaks of Mrs Craig as one of his brightest pupils, and one who left a lasting impression upon him. After her arrival in Taranaki, Mrs Craig’s health prevented her from taking the active interest in public matters that was her wont, but she found an outlet for her main energies in the education and welfare of Tier family. Airs Craig is survived by throe sisters, Mrs M. Finch, of Athol Farm, Milton ; Miss Fraser, of Dunedin, and Lady le Fleming, of Dunedin; by three daughters (Mosdames E. Meuli, South Bead, Hawera, F. le Fleming and D. Muggeridgo, of Otakeho),- and by two sons (the Rev. John Craig, of New Plymouth, and Air R. S. F. Craig, ATanaia).
