UNRULY CROWDS.
INVADE FOOTBALL GROUND. HIVAL SUPPORTERS. (Sydney Morning Herald.) Feeling ran high among rival supporters at the football match between Richmond and Collingwood at Victoria Park last week toward the end of the match, and was followed by what appeared to be a very serious disturbance at the river end of the ground and in the street outside. Disregarding a* trespass notice, hundreds of men swarmed on to the ground after the final bell had been rung, and it was only with difficulty that the umpire was escorted from the ground. Meanwhile, a dispute arose near one of the exits. Nearly 2000 persons gathered on the embankments and in the street, seriously hampering the large amount of traffic. Two senior constables, ten constables, five plainclothes constables, and two mounted police were needed to disperse the large crowd. Two women, chased by a crowd of 1000 people ran into a blind lane off another lane, and then entered an open gate into a back yard of a. private house. The occupier was informed that a hostile crowd was following the women, and he locked the door,, of the house. After searching various yards in the vicinity, the constables located the women, who were nearing a state of collapse.
