valedictory. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Air C. Jones, who is leaving Mafiaia to go farming at Oeo, was presented by the members of the AVaimate Football Club with a fountain pen and shaving outfit, the presentation taking place last Friday ■ night. Air AV. Badley, secretary of the Footbal] Club, i n making the presentation, referred to the splendid work done by Air C. Jones as a selector to’ the club and the keen interest he took in football matters. The .club could ill afford to lose the services of Mr Jones, who, a s an active member m previous years, was one of the foremost forwards in the AVaimate team. On behalf of the club, he wished Air and Mrs Jones and family every success in their new home. Messrs Jas. Hickey, H. J. Hansen, and AV. Burke also spoke lengthily of the guest’s qualities as a footballer and .selector, and also as a citizen of Alanaia. Air L. Hughe's, captain of the team, also endorsed what the previous speakers had stated, and wished the guest every happiness and success in his new venture. Mr Jones heartily thanked the speaker s and members of the AVaimate Football Club for the gift made to him, which he would always cherish, and especially the good wishes accompanying it. The function broke up with all singing ‘‘For He’s a .Jolly Good Fellow.” On Tuesday night Air C. Jones was given a .surprise party by neighbours and friends, about 50 being present, and a very happy time was spent in songs, recitations, games and cards. During the evening Mr Forrester, in making a presentation to Air and Airs Jones and Edna Jones, paid a-fine tribute to them as citizens of Alanaia, and regretted very much their departure, but hoped their absence from Alanaia would only he temporary. On behalf of those present, he presented Airs Jones with an 8-day clock, Air C. Jones with an elaborate lamp and Aliss Edna Jones with a cut-glass toilet howl. Air R. Muggeridge spoke on behalf of the Farmers’ Union, and referred to the part the guest took in its organi-; sation. A. J. Hansen and C. Jeromson spoke on behalf of the local sports, and Air Berry on behalf of theneighbours, all wishing the guests every success. Mr Jones heartily thanked the speaker for the kind utterances and good wishes, which Airs Jones, self and daughter appreciated, and the handsome gifts by which they were accompanied. They were indeed sorry to leave Alanaia. and their many friends. A sumptuous supper was provided, after which the function broke up with the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows and “Auld Lang Syne.” FAR.ALER.S’ UNION. At a meeting of the Alanaia branch of the Farmers’ Union., lreld on Saturday, it was announced that all details in connection with the grand prizegiving concert and dance, which is to be held in Alanaia Town Hall, were complete. A first-class programme will he submitted, with capital music, floor and sup.per for the dancers. Previous to the meeting the belies committee met and reported that all details were well in hand. BRASS BAND. The next euchre party and dance in aid of Alanaia Municipal Brass Bancf will he held on AVednesday night in Alanaia Town Hall. First-class prizes will he given. Good orchestral music will he provided, and also an excellent supper. The points prizes are on view in Mr L. G. Nielson’s window.
