“FEATHER YOUR NEST.”

THOUGHTLESS MARRIAGES.

YOUNG COUPLES SEEK HELP

”In the old days a young man always had some kind of a nest ready to put his mate in,” was the remark made by the chairman of the Auckland hospital re del’ committee, when he was discussing the appalling state of things which existed with regard to the number or thoughtless young people who get married, and then for some reason or another find themselves stranded in a \ verv short time. ‘•No one could possibly believe, he added, “the thoughtlessness which exists in regard to this very serious problem.” For some time how the Hospital Board had been pointing out how silly it was for young people to get married with the only provision made of having, enough belongings sufficient t o fill an "ordinary leather bag. The warning had gone unheeded, and while they were talking the young people were still getting married, and quite young couples, who might well be described as only children, luid comp to the board for relief. What some of the members could not understand was how thev had the cheek to do so. The advice given to them seemed to go in at one ear and out.at the other, and they often resented the counsel given by old and experienced people, who had a good knowledge of life. One of the worst features of the unhappy situation was that very, often the young people were not- colonialhorn' and had not been very long in the Dominion. It was good to help the old. sick and unfortunate people. The boat'd va s alway s sympathetic to such, and no genuine case of necessity was ever turned- away; but'a lesson would have to-be rigidly read to young ocople that if they were in good health S A thev must supoort themselves, and not get married till they had made some provision to get a little home together.
