A protest was made the imprisonment of Noel Lyons in New Zeuland, and the executive of the union was given power to take steps to have him released. COMMONWEALTH LINE AGREEMENT. NOT AFFECTING OTHER OWNERS. P SYDNEY', July 7. The Union Steam Ship Company has denied the statement that the company would insert the guarantee clause in articles, stating that the matter would be dealt with by the Steamship Owners’ Association. The latter association met at Melbourne and debated the action of the Commonwealth Line in agreeing to a settlement after allegedly first drawing the private owners into the fight in a .joint action for the union’s deregistration. MELBOURNE, July 7. The Steamship Owners’ Association announced at the conclusion of the meeting that, the agreement between the Commonwealth Line and the transport group had not affected the assoeiation policy. A deputation consisting of representatives of the unions and of the Trades Hall Council is proceeding to Melbourne with the object of conferring with the Commonwealth Steamship Owners’ Association with the view to securing the association as a party to the agreement between the Commonwealth Line and the transport group ot unions.
