At Gleneagles, in the thousand guineas professional golf tournament, the final over thirty-six holes was won by A. Compston (North Manchester), who beat Abe Mitchell by one hole. In the third round Mitchell beat Alliss 2 up and 1, Havers beat Kinch 3 up and 2. Compston beat Amos 2 up and 1 and C. Wliitcombe beat Williamson at the 22nd hole. In the fourth round Mitchell beat Havers at the 20th hole and Compston beat Whitcombe 2 up and 1. •Mitchell led with 69 to 75 in the first round. Compston made a sensational recovery in the second round, when in a great burst lie won seven holes out of eight. FRENCH. CHAM PI ()NSH IP. LONDON. July 4. The French amateur golf championship was won by Vagiland, who heat Cobert 6 up and 4 to play.
