RETURNS TO NEW ZEALAND. HOPEFUL HEALTH PROSPECTS. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to The Star.) WELLINGTON, July G. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister for Customs, and shortly to become Finance Minister) returned by the Tahiti to-day with Mists §'tewurt, and within an hour had commenced his Ministerial work. Judging only by appearances, he has not improved in health, but Miss Stewart. who accompanied her brother to New York to consult Dr. Burbank, the specialist in antiiritis is very confident that lie is definitely on the road to recovery. The joint trouble has been wonderfully cleaned up,febut owing to the mus'ciles having been'taut for many yeans, they are now so loose as to be almost useless, “but Dr. Burbank is very hopeful, and says this is the normal course of events and that strength will return with use. We have brought vaccine for continuation of the treatment, which hais to its credit some wonderful cures.” WELLINGTON. July 0. Asked as to health. Mr. Stewart said that he had undergone a fairly severe treatment in, New York, but it would be some time before, the beneficial results would become obvious. Indeed, in the meantime, he would be unable to walk until the mntscle.s of his legs had become stronger, although they were now quite healthy. The course of treatment really required about >six or nine months, and having had only three months in New York, it was .still necessary to continue the treatment, and this he would now be able to do in New Zealand. Judging by other result's achieved at the New York clinic, he had every . reason to hone that in the course of some months he would he able to dispense with crutches.
