At the Stadium, Charlie Purdie (9.8-)) of New Zealand, fought a tiventy rounds drawn battle with Jimmy Allen (9.6))- Although the fight was colourless and uninteresting. Purdie showed himself fast and clever, but his punches were unconvincing. The crowd on two occasions counted the men out. Against a different style of boxer Purdie would make a much better showing. MELBOURNE, July 5. Ben Martin defeated Dick Congress on points in a ten rounds bout. Charlie Pilkington secured the verdict over Bert McCarthy on points in a fight of a. similar distance.
