HOCKEY AND' BASKET BALL. The girls of the IT awe r a Technical High School have recently been having seme malt enjoyable games of hockey and basket-ball. On Saturday last the hockey A team met and defeated the Mamaia ladies’ team by one goal to nil. The game was very .hard and keen, and the girls counted’ themselves fortunate in beating such doughty opponents. On Wednesday morning the New Plymouth Technical College girls played their annual match, which, Ha.wer.ju won by four goals to nil. This, was a really splendid game, good hockey being played by both sides. The Hawera. goals were' scored by 0. Young (2), AT. Armour and T. Prime. On Thursday the competition game with the redoubtable JCaiponga ladies team was played, the result being n draw—two goals • each, both. Hawera goals being scored by T. Prime. On Saturday also the B team played a lively game . with Normaniby, the game ending without a score on either side. Basket ball also lias been attracting considerable attention. The A, team recently visited New Plymouth, and were beaten by a. substantial margin by New Plymouth Technical College, while the B team, won their match against the local main school. A lot of credit is due to the two lady members of the staff —Misses B. Earl and D. Britland, who give up their Saturday and a. great, deal of their own time in the interests of the girls. .The school is indebted to Messrs., Everts, Warner and Morrissey for acting gya referees.
