GENERALLY QUIET. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Jnlv 3, 12.20 p.m.) PEKING, July 2. The strike position lias not changed, and the situation is quietening. Volunteers are being reduced. The head Chinese foreman at Shanghai waterworks was shot dead in the street at Ningpo, where there were demonstrations but no riots. Martial law has been declared at Chingking. Japanese residents left the native city for the Japanese concession.—Reuter.
