WANTS WAR.
CHRISTIAN CHINESE GENERAL
HEADS ARMY OF 200,000.
PREPARED TO DIE FOR CHINA
6Y CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received July 2, 3 p.m. PEKING, July 1. Signor Cerutti states that discussions with the Chinese delegates, to begin on July 6, will bo strictly limited to the settlement of the Shanghai affairs. Other questions as to mixed courts, organisation, international settlement, which the Chinese Government desired to discuss, will require a further conference. The Japanese newspaper Stanadrd publishes a translation of a speech by Eengyidjsiang, described as a Christian general, in the course of which he. said: “To the .list of the Shanghai and Hangkow tragedies is now added the Shameen massacre. This exhausts our patience. Whatever the attitude of the others, I want war. L am the com-mander-in-chief of the people’s army, and my trops, who are %\vovn to the edath for their country, cannot ignore it. We are forced to the wall and have no choice. We must fight out the issue Along the road of blood, otherwise there will be no chance for China or humanity. This is why the army is prepared to fight, so that justice and humanity may prevail in this work. 1 pray that war may come early, so that I may die for the salvation of China. It is far better to die than to live a.s slaves ot our enemies. Let us prepare for the coming struggle; make the first move and the rest will follow. In death there will he glory for our army of two hundred thousand. God had a special purpose for us when He ordained that we should live at this time, instead ol fifty years ago, or forty years later. He wants us to fight the forces of evil if we want justice.” —Reuter.
