AFFAIRS OF A CRICKET COACH. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION .) WELLINGTON, July 1. A legations tnat extravagant living has been lesponsible for his bankruptcy were made at the Magistrate’s Court to-day when Fredrick Theodore lfadcock, a cricket coaen, was charged tnat having been adjudged a bankrupt did oy unjustifiable extravagance of living, bring about his bankruptcy, and that lie contracted a debt of £2l 10s 6d with J. T. Lewis without reasonable expectation of being able to pay it, as well as his other debts. Badcock, said the Grown Prosecutor, arrived in New Zealand under an engagement to the Wellington Cricket Association at a salary of £d per week. Shortly after his arrival he began to run up large accounts, and in two and a half months his liabilities were £643 Ids 3d. He had brought about his bankruptcy by extravagant living. The official assignee produced a statement of defendant’s affairs which showed liabilities to he £468 and the assets nil. , . For the defence C. G. Wilson, chairman of the Wellington Cricket Association, said that although Badcock was engaged at. £250 per annum, that was the'guaranteed minimum. He had opportunities for increasing his salaiy considerably. The infantile paralysis epidemic must necessarily have interfered considerably with his earnings outside tho amount guaranteed. He had also published a valuable hook, “Advice on Cricket,” which ' should bring in additional revenue. Badcock was committed for trial, hail being fixed at £2OO.
