Shortly after his arrival he began to run up large accounts, and in two and a half months his liabilities were £643 Ids 3d. He had brought about his bankruptcy by extravagant living. The official assignee produced a statement of defendant’s affairs which showed liabilities to he £468 and the assets nil. , . For the defence C. G. Wilson, chairman of the Wellington Cricket Association, said that although Badcock was engaged at. £250 per annum, that was the'guaranteed minimum. He had opportunities for increasing his salaiy considerably. The infantile paralysis epidemic must necessarily have interfered considerably with his earnings outside tho amount guaranteed. He had also published a valuable hook, “Advice on Cricket,” which ' should bring in additional revenue. Badcock was committed for trial, hail being fixed at £2OO.
