LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. ADDR ESS-IN-R EPLY. WELLINGTON, July 1. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Hon. G. M. Thomson moved the Address-in-Rep'y, which was seconded by Hon. Mr Hawke. The Coucil adjourned at 4.30 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. When the House resumed tins afternoon, Mr Atmore (Nelson) gave notice of Ins intention to move the following aenindmeut to the Audiess-in-itepiy:— ‘ ‘That tne following words be added to tne motion of the member for Franklin (1) That it is imperatively necessary, in the best interests of the Dominion, that a strong stable National Government should be formed during the present session in order to provide a comprehensive policy o.f reconstruction and economic and social betterment, and by so ministering to. the true needs of the people, avert the dangers of a breakdown of representative Government and a menace to orderly progress now threatening owing to the increase of parties, and the consequent inability of the Government to function for tlie welfare of the State; (2) that no considerations of party advantage, personal ambitions, or claims of candidates should be allowed to block the wav to the immediate formation of such National Government. That in the event of the parties concerned failing to arrive at an agreement to establish such Government, full information should be given to the people showing the nature of the proposals discussed, and the attitude and actions of each party, so that the public may then judge those, who have failed to put national interests before the interests of parties and persons, and thus proved unworthy of public confidence. Mr Holland, at the conclusion of Ins suoceh, moved an amendment to the motion before the House: That the following words he added to the motion of the member for Franklin: ‘But we deem it our duty to represent to your Excellency that vour Excellency s advisers do not possess the confidence ot this House.” The amendment was seconded by wn Armstrong. , r Sneeehes were made bv the Jdon. ivi >■ Anderson and the Hon.
