HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —At a time when every effort is being made to advertise South Taranaki, and Haweoia, in particular, might I suggest that a little attention bo directed to the lack of sportsmanship displayed, by the people of Taranaki at yesterday Is football match. It is a commendable thing to support and be loyal to our own players, but surely that should not smother that spirit of fair-play for which the British people are supposed to be renowned. I doubt if more than ten per cent, of the huge crowd of spectators at the representative match applauded any of the clever play shown by the Wellington team. Surely the most- “one-eyed” of the spectators must admit that there were at least some occasions on which the play of the visitors merited recognition, whilst I question if at any time before on the Hawera ground has any forward. local or visitor, given as brilliant an exhibition as that of Porter. We are exhorted to be proud of our mountain, proud of our district, and proud of our town; >so why not develop the spirit of true sportsmanship in order that we miay also be proud of our citizens. 3 —l am, etc.. “FAIR-PLAY.” Hawera, July 2.
