TO SAVE BABY’S LIFE.

FATHER’S GIFT OF BLOOD

REMARKABLE OPERATION

A remarkable operation thi s week, in which six blood transfusions were made from a father to his baby girl, now only a fortnight old, and a patient at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, lias resulted in saving the child’s life. Grace Ethel Manners, the tiny patient, was only two days old when she came to the hospital, a motionless little armful, from which dangerous hemorrhage was quickly sapping life and strength. Her young mother and father had little hope that their baby would live. But the bleeding was stopped. It took a good deal of careful and tireless work. The father, who is a sailor, hared his arm for the operation, and three times on the first day .blood was transfused from the veins of his arm to those of his Ini by daughter’s leg. There was little change i n the child’s condition, and further transfusions were made on following days. Qnlv a few ounces were taken each operation, hut eventually signs of gradually increasing strength were apparent. The baby is still a weak and pale little infant, but js now out of danger.
