MANAIA.

PRESENTATION. On Monday night the members of the Manaia Municipal Brass Band made a presentation to their late secretary, Mr H. Burgess, who is leaving Manaia. The presentation consisted of a handsome silver shaving set and mirror. Sergeant Walters, in making the presentation, spoke of the splendid work done by Mr Burgess since taking over the important duties as secretary. , . , Conductor Cosgrove also eulogised the splendid work of Mr Burgess, and spoke* of the loss the band had sustained through , his leaving Manaia. Both Sergeant "Walters and. Conductor Cosgrove wished him every success on behalf of the members of the band. Mr Bur gess suitably replied. R.S.A. BALL. Much interest is being taken in Manaia and district over the forthcoming returned soldiers' annual ball, which, is to he held in the Manaia Town Hall on Thursday, _ July 9. Special preparations are being made this year in an effort to eclipse all previous functions. The committees have been working for a considerable time with the decorations, and l the services of Newberry’s professional orchestra have been obtained. The. ladies’ committee has its work well in hand. Ihe public will he well catered for. On Friday there will also be held i<be children’s fancy dress hall, when it is expected over 400 children will he present.
