Representatives of. the unions associated with the workers’ transport., group privately interviewed the Premier (Mr J. T. Lang) concerning the shipping dispute,, and submitted certain proposals for settlement to him. After submitting the proposed terms of the owners, Mr Lang' stated that lie would announce' them publicly. Although nothing is known of -their nature,-it;is understood the situation is much brighter. ‘ The owners of the Canberra, after an abortive conference with the crew, decided to tie the vessel up indefinite-., ly. They -also tied up the collier Malachite for a similar' cause. There are now ten vessels idle in Australian ports over the guarantee elause.
