EARL OF SEAFIELD.
CLAIMANTS TO TITLE
SEVERAL IN THE FIELD. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, June 28. The newspaper Weekly Dispatch says that Alexander Grant, a septuagenarian schoolmaster, is claiming in the Scottish Courts to the title the . huge fortune of the Earl of Seafield, at present held by the 19-year-old Lady Seafield, one of the few countesses in her own right, whose grandfather lived in humble circumstances in New Zealand prior to succeeding to the title. Mr Grant claims to he a son of the seventh earl, who paid for his education at Aberdeen, and only saw his mother sonce in 1906. Lord Strathspey, uncle of Lady Seafield and heir presumptive, says that Mr Grant’s claim is one of several. An American claims the title, and already calls herself Countess of Strathspey. He adds: “I have contemplated claiming the eardom, but it would cost £50,000, which is prohibitive. The trustees of the estates allow me £7OO per annum.
