AIORE POINTS OF INTEREST. Racehorse owners will be interested to learn that provision has been made ill the new railway tariff for the return trip of bona fide racehorses at half rates. ? . 111 regard to household effects, these will now be carried in class B at the owner’s risk,, the minimum rate being put down at one ton. In the past there were differences in classification for various articles in household effects, and- the new; arrangement will, it is contended, completely obviate these unnecessary restrictions. A most particular concession has been proposed in regard to the freight on . metal for roadmaking purposes under certain conditions. Of late there has been quite a lot said concerning roads competing with railways. It is evident that the Railway Board, or Department, are out to endeavour to prevent the practice as far as possible. With that object in view, it is pro=posed to make a “road metal concession” of five-eighths class Q for the construction of “feeder” roads to the railways only. Metal* for other roads which are -competing with the railways will be charged class Q net. The previous rate for this particular class of freight was three-eighths Q, plus 40 per cent. Special provision has been made for the conveyance of exhibits to the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition at Dunedin this year. Tt Jiffs been decided that, provided the 7 exhibits taken down by rail remain untold, the return journey will-lie given free.
