EIGHT HOURS PROPOSAL. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received June 25, 11.50 a.m. LONDON, June '24. The discussion, on the eight hours day for railwayinen attracted a large gathering of delegates at the International Railway Congress. Speakers! described the conditions m their own countries. Mr. Mason, o>f New Zealand, argued that an eight -hours day was impracticable, especially in countries where there was- a small population and raila way work was light. Mr. Sill, South Africa, .said that they- all accepted the principle, hut it was difficult to apply ut to railways ninning under- conditions to which it was not suited. An eight-hour day could not be applied rigidly in South Africa. Resolutions were framed, but the discussion was deferred till to-morrow. — Reuter.
