HUNTING.

There was a very good hunt at Mr. B W. Harvey's. Kolii, 'ast week, Mr. Harvey and Mr. Hylands, his manager, entertaining the hunt. The country hunted over was that oi Mesrs Harvey, Langlev. Powell. Hone. Hughes and Watkins. Followers were favoured with probably the best hunt of the season, there were plenty of horses, hounds ran well and the leaves were- in splendid order. Save for a break-when the hounds followed the hare into cover down the gorge, the he'd was running practically the whole afternoon. A kill resulted alter a good run on the flat. Alter refreshments had been handed round the master. Dr. Sinimonds, thanked Mr. Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. Rylands for the excellent day’s sport. He mentioned that it had been a great bunting day. . Mr. Harvey responded and welcomed the hunt to return next season. Amongst those following were noticed the master. (Dr. Sinimonds) on Bahrain, deputy-master D. Imp ton on Frostv, huntsman Miles on Bold Top M iss Gibson on Nelische. 13. W . Harvey on Mack. H. Bremer on Elusion H. L. Spratt on Montana. .T. Sheehan on Wallace.' T. Lupton on Knfmw E. Davidson on Waiteika, t>. Solan on St Fern. H. Bylands on Gordon. C. Olliver on Gonc-heune-day-light and S. Bosley on a black. Iheic were rnanv following mounted, in cais and on foot Amongst those mounted were Misse* S. Besley. Wybourne and Andrews: in cars were Messrs Watkins and party and Bremer and party. Last week hounds met at Mr. J. F. Stevenson’s, Knpuni. It was an excellent hunting day and hounds ran well. There were many runs, m fact hares were very numerous—too numerous reallv. for hunting. A kill resulted in mid-field. The properties hunted over where those of Messrs Stevenson, 1? Old. S. Langford. Gulliver, A. McCracken and Mrs. Sootliill. The country has good fences tor hunting and altogether a very enjoyable day was spent. The thanks of the club aie due to the Messrs ('. and J. Paterson for the preparation of the fences. The hunt was very hospitably entertained bv Mr. Stevenson and alter refreshments bad been partaken of the master (Dr Sinimonds) returned the thanks of the club and those hunting, to Mr. Stevenson and neighbours, and in the course of his remarks mentioned that the country hunted over that day was amongst some oi the earliest count!.' hunted by the cub. He also mentioned that it was pleasing to see so many out. which showed that hunting was still keenly supported. ' The deputy-master, H. I. Crocker, also expressed thanks to our host and the neighbours whose country had been hunted overi Messrs Stevenson, R, Old and C. Paterson responded, each extending a welcome to the club to return again next season. Mr. Stevenson, in the course of his remarks, said that apart from its sport the club was of great usefulness to the community inasmuch as it encouraged a good class of horse and rider. Mr. Stevenson congratulated the club on its method of transport of the hounds, namely, by motor lorry, and he stated that ho noticed there was a big improvement in the running of the hounds this season, whether or not it was on account of the transport he could not say, but it very probably was. He was not one of those who was pessimistic as to the future of limiting, but on the contrary was confident that hunting was on the ascent. Hayward on Allies, J. Laverv on Price, AY. Grindlay on Chyra. F. Atkins on Prince Paul. Langford on a hay and Langford on a chestnut. There were many parties following in cars and on foot, amongst them being Mr. J. F. Stevenson and party. Mrs. Spratt and party. J. Paterson and party. J. Smilie and party and C. Paterson and party.
