TENDERS TO BE CAT.LED

The So’dier Memorial Committee met again last night, the Mayor presiding over a god number of members. The secretary reported that nppioximatelv £l2O was in hand, and the total of the promises was increasing. The football match played on Thursday bast- between the Rawhitiron and Mata teams resulted in the sum of £lO 13s being handed in. The teams would no doubt arrange another match, as the previous one resulted in a drawn game.. It was decided to call tenders for the erection of the gates of two designs, that of Mr Moore’s and Mn Manley’s drawings. The canvassers of the various districts reported oil the resu’t of their work, which generally wore satisfactory. It was decided to advertise asking relatives to submit the names of any soldiers who left from this district. PLUNKKT SOCIETY.
A special meeting of the* executive committee was he d yesterday afternoon, at which the Mayor (Mr Ira J. B id~-v> Hon. Sir Walter Carncross, Mr O. Hawken, M.P., Mr. T. B. Crump, and Mr [,. Weir wore present, to. advise as to the contemplated purchase of a building lor the use of the society. "Various suggestions were considered. and it was eventually decided to make an offer for the building at present used by the society. The president. Mrs Hawken, stated that the payment of rent was a con tinua 1 drain on the committee’s funds, and she thought that this sum should be put into a permanent building.' The society was very solid, and the committee was al] keen on the object, and she thought that there would be no difficulty with regard to future payments.
