At a meeting of the City Council last ngiht the By-laws Committee recommended the granting of an application by the provincial council of the licensed trade to erect hoardings in various parts of the city, by way of a reply to the prohibition placards now being displayed. After a [oiTg discussion the council referred the matter hack to the committee. FIRE IN SUNDAY SCHOOL BUILDING. HOKITIKA, June 23. All Saints’ Sunday School building was gutted by fire early this morning. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. The building held many recollections of early associations. A portion was occupied by Miss Davies, a music teacher, one of whose two pianos was badly damaged.
