DR. BARNARDO’S HOMES.

YOUNG HELPERS’ LEAGUE. The half-yearly box opening of the Hawera Habitation of the Young Helpers’ League Branch of Dr. Barnardo's Homes was held on Saturday. The young members were entertained to afternoon tea and later the result of the contents of the boxes was made known to be £l9 13s Id. One of the contributions was exceedingly interesting, the little girl saying it was her mother’s Christmas pudding contribution savings for fifteen years. Mrs. Lovell thanked the young members for their assistance and told them that the amount collected would more than pay the expenses of keeping one child in a cot in the Australasian Hospital for six months, the cost being £32 a year.

This sum was the largest yet received from the local children's branch. During the afternoon several new League members were enrolled.
