BOARD MEMBERS ENTERTAINED

]\le sst*s Motion unci lor ns, menibois of the Dairy Produce Export Control Hoard, who have been selected to repiesent the board in London, were entertained at dinner. Mr. Grounds, the chairman, emphasised Die need for better marketing methods. Mr. Motion said he would do his best, in the interests of the dairy produce industry. Some of the proposed reforms in# marketing methods had been described as “Socialistic’ and ‘ Communistic,” but he asked would any section of 'business men living in the city consider it good business to manufacture eighteen to twenty million pounds worth of produce ancl send it to the market without any organisation at the market end to protect their interests. Business men who clid this would be thought mad. ... The Hon. M . Nosworthy (Minister for Agriculture! said the board’s function was solely to consolidate the industry. He had no doubt as to the future success of the meat, dairy and other boards. The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Ministei for Lands) said that Parliament was closelv concerned in the success of the Dairy Board, whose powers affected 40 per cent, of the country’s total export. If success was not achieved. Parliament would have to answer to the country. He did not doubt the boaid s ability' to secure the desired results, but regretted the apathy shown by sections of the industry in matters affecting their own business. At the recent election over 25 per cent, did not vote.
