BRIGHT PLAY WITNESSED. DETAILS OF GAMES. The weather was ideal for football yesterday afternoon, when the Wednesday competition was advanced another stage. Some good games were played, details of which were as follow: — CITY A (9) Y. TOKAORA (0). In the first spell play was ragged, the Tokaora forwards having the better of the work in the serums and the City hacks not showing to advantage. There was some bright play, however, when Goodwin put in a good run and scored. Purser failing to convert. In the second spell .much better footbal' was witnessed, the City backs throwing the ball about a good deal. The passes, however, could have been better 1 judged, Soon after the commencement of the second spell, one of the Tokaora men was injfi’vd and bad to. retire, the team playing on with. 14 men. For City, Craighead and Smith "both crossed the line and scored, but no goals resulted from either kick. Both teams missed several c-asy penalties, and the game ended City A 9, Tokaora 0. For seme time the leather was taken up and down the field, bat after n while one of the Manaia players got off-side, and Hart dropped a good goal. Manaia .retaliated and play went to the other end of the field, where from loose play Wilson scored. The kick failed. Hawera were not to be denied, and after some loose p’ay Harrison gathered up the leather and scored. Hart’s kick failed. Just before this Jury had to leave the field, he having sustained a broken elbow. From this on Hawera nlayed with 14 men. For Manaia, J, Wilson crossed the fine and scored, Rami Sam missing with the kick. Shortly afterwards Rum Sam scored, S. Rei’s attempt to convert being unsuccessful.

Hawera cam© again and Foster scored a try. Cheer converting. Mr Badlev controlled the game.

OHANGAI (5) V. WHAREROA (3)

Contrary to expectations, Wliareroa, patting- in a full team for the first time this season, put up a sp'ervdid dght against 'Ohangai, and had the better of the game throughout except for' .a fern minutes in the second half. 5. French scored for the home team, but failed to convert, and in the,second spell Ohangai was awarded a doubtful try, which was converted by a fine kick from a difficult angle. Mr Arnold controlled the game.

Fraser Road kicked off, Noimanby’s full-back returning'the baP well up the field. Then followed a fair amount of this type of pay for a quarter of an hour, until the Fraser Road forwards secured tlie baP and attacked steadily, and kept Normanby busy until the half, but no score was registered. After the kick-off Normanby followed up into their opponents’ territory, where a desperate struggle took place, which was soon relieved by Fraser Road breaking away, and after some smart play kicked a penalty goal. The play then became rather better. Fraser Read sent the hall out to the backs, and after some smart work F,. Bftnrke scored, a- good try. which was not converted.
