ALLEGED SHIPPING COMBINE,
SIR W. PETERSON’S DEATH
SENSATIONAL ALLEGATION,
BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received June 17, 11.40 a.m.) OTTAWA, June 16. Mr W. T. A. Preston, whose -report to the Government alleged that the North Atlantic conference was a combine operating in restraint of Canadian trade, stated that Sir William Peterson, whose body left for England today, was killed by “damnably lying” cablegrams sent to the directors of his company by “agents of the shipping combine.” He. expressed the belief that Sir W. Peterson’s associates would go through with the contract, which was nearing its final stages when the magnate’s death suspended further consideration. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
