The friends of Dr. G. Home, of New Plymouth, will regret to hear that his health necessitates that he should undergo an operation immediately. He left last night for Auckland, wnere the operation will be performed by Dr. Garrick Robertson.
The Governor-General was reported yesterday morning to be showing improvement in health, but it was not certain whether his condition would be sufficiently improved to permit him to go north to-night, as contemplated, says a Christchurch message. Mr. H. Crosbie, general manager of the Tamaki Co-operative Dairy Company, Te Hehunga, 'Dannevirke, and formerly manager at Kakaramea, has been elected Dominion president of the Factory Managers’ Association.
The many friends of Mrs. Cleland will regret to learn that on Monday evening she had to receive surgical treatment lor appendicitis. The operation, however, which was preformed in the Kaponga private hospital, has proved successful and she is reported to be progressing favourab'y. Immediately on receipt of the news in Hawera yesterday of the distressful 'accident in Christchurch on Monday, resulting in the death of Station O'dicer J. H. Nobleht, and injuries to six other fire brigadesme-n, Superintendent- Morrison despatched, on 'behalf of the Hawera brigade, a message of condolence to Superintendent Warner, of Christchurch, in the loss sustained by the brigade, and requesting him to convey sympathy to the relatives of the deceased officer, and also expressing hopes for the -speedy recovery of thoe injured. A similar . message to Superintendent Warner was forwarded yesterday by Superintendent A. Melville- on behalf of the Kaponga brigade.
