DISTRICT CONVENTION.

WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE: UNION.

The annual Wanga.nui-Taranaki district convention of the Women’s Christian Teljipera.nce Union was held at Waitara on Wednesday, June 10, at which all unions from Wanganui to New Plymouth' were represented. The Waitara branch tendered a- public welcome to the visiting delegates oil, Tuesday evening. The* Mayor was in the. chair, and extended to the, delegates on behalf of the Waitara people a. very hearty welcome to their town. Similar sentiments were uttered by the ministers on behalf-of their churches, and by representatives of the No-Li-cense League. The business session of the convention was commenced next morning. Mrs. ' Duxfield, district president, occupied the chair. Formal business was preceded bv devotional, exercises..' . The afternoon session was enlivened by a five minutes’ speech competition, for which six’,competitors entered. , Grinsteed, area organiser for the New Zealand Alliance, gave an address. and a call to the women of the W.C.T.U. to help for the sake of the children in, the campaign this' year, for the abolition, of the l.i.qnor traffic. Mr Grinsteed and Rev. Lindsey addressed a puhlic meeting that evening. Mo=t of the delegates returned, to their ; homes , on, Thursday morning by the mail train enthusiastic over the results of the l - convention. •
