A pitched battle occurred at Glace 3ay, lasting upwards or fifteen minutes. Members of the United Aline “Workers ..of America, now on strike, charged tile power-house, which had been reopened bv the British Empire .Steel Corporation on Wednesday, in order to save the coal mines from further hooding. Early this afternoon the miners were m complete charge of the plant. One man was killed and another shot in
the stomach. Several of the company’s police were injured. ■, . ver-house was closed a week age, when strikers ejected the maintenance men, following the company’s refusa] to accept.the Hon. Mr James Murdoch, Minister for Labour, as arbitrator.
To-day’s incident is the first act of serious violence reported during the strike, involving twelve thousand men, and which has entered its fourth month. —lie liter.
