Slater, of Oba.ngai. boy, however, left Air. Staters employment, ..anrl coining in to Hawei a was standing in Collins Street when he saw some people leave a; house. When they had gone he entered the residence, and after turning over many of the contents he opened two, children's, money-boxes and stole 18s 4d Air. O’.Donoghue, manager of the Weraroia Farm, gave evidence, disclosing ‘(the boy’s previous bad character. The magistrate ordered Guilford to be detained in the Borstal Institution for a period of three years. Three lads who some time ago get into mischief with a'firearm and ammunition, each came up for sentence on tr.ro charges. The lads, George Vv. E. Leach, John Cli.mo and Melvihe R,. Clarke appeared in court, Sergt. Henry stated that since tiie occurrence the boys had been reporting jto the police, and he could say that their behaviour had been good The boys, were convicted and discharged. John Rush was charged with leaving houses unattended. He did not appear, tout forwarded a written plea of guilty, stiating that he left the horses and waggon with the brake on, but no chains. Sergt. Henry said that the lad was driving a waggon, with two horses in it. He stopped at a pa. and while inside. the horses moved oirr and collided with a, car. Defendant had paid the damages (£4) to the owner of the car. A line of 5s and 7s court costs was imposed. Charged with driving a car without sufficient lights attached, R. F. Page pleaded guilty. Defendant explained that he had been out on business when, coming home, the prestolito cylinder which supplied the gas for the car lights failed, and he proceeded'-on towards Normanhy with the indention of housing his car, using an electric torch. His Worship, in, fixing a* fine of £il and 7s court- costs, advised defendant bo, read the old story of the five foolish virgins. _ Aliddleton Lee wa® charged with leaving a, motor-car standing in Princes Street without a light attached. Sergt. Henry said that the car was in a rather dangerous • position.
Defendant-, who pleaded guilty,; was fined £1 and 7s court costs. Albert C. Linn forwarded a. written plea of guilty in connection with a charge of driving a dray without lights. Deifenda-nt-’si excuse was that he had been engaged in ear ting work which he had thought woutkl take him two hours, and he was nearly home -at 5.30 p.m. when Constable- Pidgeon ■stopped him.
A fine, of 15s and 7s count co-slta was imposed.
