CITY MILK SUPPLY.
FARMERS AND COUNCIL. INTERESTING DISPUTE. OVER FURNISHING OF RETURNS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, June 11. The Wellington Suburban Farmers’ Association and the City Council came to grips over the letter's recently passed law requiring certain returns to be furnished by the farmers coverinn- their operations. At the association's annual meeting the report, which was adopted, after declaring a desire to reach a settlement, stressed the view that the council’s milk committee was trying to harass them in every possible way, and breathed defiance of any rules the council would impose. It was pointed out that the farmers could not live on the prices- offered by the council. One speaker declared that “another battle was coining,” since constant summonses to attend the court left the farmer no time at ad. The by-law to which objection was taken requires farmers each month to supply verified details of milk sold in the city. Leading businesses and hospitals in the city, it was contended, took nearly all the milk supplied by the farmers in preference to the municipal supply. It was decided that no returns be furnished, and that, if necessary, the association should make a. test case of any action brought against its members by the City Council.
