SCHOOL HOURS.
HAWERA PARENTS’ PROTEST. At the meeting of the Education Board yesterday at New Plymouth the attention of the board was drawn to the recent changing of the hour s of the Hawera school. It was stated-that the board had received a letter, following tne householders’ meeting in April last, from Air. F. A. Bates (headmaster), stating that..a reso'pEon had been passed at the meeting to the effect that the opening time of the school should be made half-an-hour earlier in the morning, and the dosing time be altered accordingly. Air. Bates had put forward numerous arguments pi favour of the earlier opening. Since permission had been granted, a petition signed by 74 parents had been forwarded by Mr. J. \V. Harding (chairman of the local school, committee), protesting strongly against the change in school hours.* It was stated that the change was most awkward in many homes, and it wa s 'urged that the old time-table, be reverted to. Although most of the members of the board were in favour of the earlier opening in the town districts, it was left to a committee of Messrs S . G. Smith, H. J. Eaves, and A. .Lees to decide what should be done in , the matter on their next visit to the Hawera schoo 1 .
