BEEKEEPERS’ CONFERENCE. (BY TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GEEYMOUTH, June 4. At the Beekeepers’ Conference the following remits were adopted : Southland branch.—(l) “That the Southland branch desires to express hearty appreciation of the excellent work that has been and is still being done by the temporary local inspectors in the reduction of foulbrood, and would urge the Department to continue its work on the present lines.. Judging by the satisfactory reports of these inspectors, there is great hope of the ultimate eradication of the disease, but if at this stage inspection be discontinued, the disease will again increase rapidly.” (2) “That the Department be urged to gazette regulations effectively to prohibit the .removal of diseased bees from one location to another.”
NAUTICAL INQUIRY. WELLINGTON, July 4. The Marine Department advise that Captains Edwin and W. jßarron (Christchurch) have been appointed nautical assessors to the inquiry re the stranding of the steamer Cyreha. No date has yet : been fixed for the hearing. OLD MAN BURNT. CHRISTCHURCH, June 4. William Clay, about eighty years of age, was burned to, death at Glentui. He had been • employed on the O’Halloran estate for many years, but, being past work, he was allowed to live in a cottage on the property. He had tea at the.homestead on. 'Tuesday, and later in the evening was visited by a friend. | At six this morning the cottage was noticed to he on fire, and practically destroyed. Search of the ruins was made."and part of the trunk of a man was found. WAIRAKEI LIMITED. AUCKLAND, June 4. At a meeting of the shareholders of Wairakei Limited, the directors reported that finality ' had been reached on the question of litigation and an agreement had been arrived at by which, a'l differences had been settled by the payment of £l5O. to Arthur Cleave, who had abandoned all further claims and withdrawn the appeal to the Privy Council. . . . A resolution was carried reducing the capital to £50.000, divided into 100,000 shares of 10s each, and making other adjustments to the finances.
