VALEDICTORY
Opportunity was taken last Tiiursdav afternoon by the children ajid staff of the Auroa School; to show their esteem for Miss E. 1 ( . Farquhar, first assistant, who is giving up the teaching profession to be married. Mr. T. Kilpatrick, chairman of the committee, in a few words, expressed the parents’ appreciation for what Miss Farquhar had done fo r their children during her period of service at the school.
Mr. Brown, headmaster, spoke highly of Miss Faiquhar’s faithful performance of. her duties, and on behalf oi the children aild residents of the distirct, presented her with a Doulton ware salad bowl.
Miss Farquhar briefly responded SCHOOL FAIR.
For this function, preparations for which had been in hand for several weeks, the weather was fortunately good. ’ Proceedings opened with a cow judging competition, for which the children had been coached by Mr. R. •Syrne, the Education Board’s agricultural instructor. Mr. F. Mills, of Tbkaora, kindly consented to make the awards, which were as follow-Brian Bradford 1, Colin Austin 2, Vera Anderson 3, Mary MoWat 4, Nelly Lyndon 5, Alice Aroa 6. After the children had completed their cards, Mr. Mills gave a most instructive address, mentioning the points of the cow which should be looked for. To show their appreciation of this, those' assembled gave Mr. Mills three hearty cheers. The thanks of the committee are due to Mr. P. Cameron for the loan of a cow, which proved most suitable for the purpose. The chilclren’s sports were well looked after by the teachers, and.-the youngsters had: a goodi time. Those connected with the school are deeply grateful to the ladies and gentlemen who worked so hard to make the fair the success it was. Andrews, picture proprietor of Opunake, gave a benefit performance in the hall, the building being crowded foj- the occasion. At the conclusion, Mr. Kilpatrick, chairman of the committee, voiced the thanks of the committee for Mr. Andrew’s help. The committee’s funds, as a result of the day’s efforts, will he augmented by some £4O odd. METHODIST ANNIVERSARY TEA. It is hoped that a good crowd: will muster for the anniversary tea on Friday next. The tea will commence at 6 ii.m., and to follow this a musical programme is being arranged. An enjoyable sociaj evening is anticipated? ' HALL COMMITTEE.
The charges for the Trail have been revised -as follows: —Preparing the hall for a function the night before 7s ’fid, use of hail till 12 o’clock £l, after 12 o’clock 5s extra. Charge for use of crockery os, all breakages to be made good by hirer.
