Mr H. A. Green, who succeeds Mr Orinsby as postmaster at Patea> has commenced his duties in that town.

A Sydney Press message reports the death of Dr. John Brady Nash, a, member of the Legislative Council and an eminent surgeon. An acknowledgment has been received by Mr R. Dunn front Mrs Massey to the message of , sympathy sent to her and her family by the Reform organisation in Auroa, on the occasion of the death of the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey. .

In reply to a message of sympathy in his serious illness sent to Mr. Robert Lambie of Pihama by the South Taranaki Executive of the Farmers’ Union, a reply has bee n received acknowledging the good wishes and sympathy of members. Mr. Lambie, who by the way was many years a valued member of the executive, said that he always had the interests of the union very much at heart..

A pleasing little function took place on Tuesday last at the Egmont Hotel, when a few friends of Mr. J. Burns met to make a presentation to him on the eve of his marriage. Mr. Higgs, in. making the presentation, said lie expressed the feeling pf all present when he said, they were sorrv he was leaving the town, and wished him every success” and the best of luck in his future life. He then asked him to accept a very nice tea service as a small token of the esteem in which he was held. /Mr. Burns suitably replied, expressing bis surprise and pleasure at the gift. His health and that of his future wife were drunk with musicaf honours.
