PLUNKET SOCIETY

On Friday the committee of the x’atea branch of tiie Idunket Society neld a most successful social afternoon m St. Ueorges Sunday School room. .Ailing tne afternoon several musical items were rendered, also a dainty dance by little Miss Neilson, alter >viii.;h aliernoon tea was served.

Mrs \V. F. Sheikl (president of the arane/i), in', a brief speech, said how > ery pleased they all were with the way the Patea branch of the Plunket .society had grown. For a long time they had a hard struggle, but now they were well established and were going ahead splendidly and steadily increasing, which was gratifying to all. From the splendid attendance chat day it was very evident that the next social afternoon would have to be held in the Town Hall supper room. The president thanked all present for the interest shown in the welfare of the society 7. Several new members were enrolled, and quite a number of donations were also received.

Nurse Smith, Phmket nurse, who visits Patea weekly, gave a very interesting and exceedingly instructive address, and expressed pleasure at the great advancement of the Patea branch.

A feature of the afternoon was a baby competition, judged by public vote. The results were as follows: Girl up to six months, Mrs Findlay 1; boy up to six months, Mrs Norman Tinney 1. Six months and up to 12 months: Girl, Mrs Murdock 1; boy, Mrs Tennet 1. Twelve months and up to 18 months: Boy, Mrs Railton 1; girl, Mrs Roots 1
