DIVORCE IN JAPAN.
AMENDMENTS IN LAW. INCREASING WOMEN’S STATUS. TURK), May 16. The High Commission, which is revising the eivi] code recommends that permission be granted women to institute proceedings for divorce on the grounds of adultery. Hitherto it has been the husband’s exclusive right to commence action on these grounds. The commission also recommends that divorce by mutual consent be restricted to cases where the living parents and grandparents of the parties also consent. In the past the signatures of the husband and wife only were necessary for this step.
Both of these changes will . vastly break down mail’s superior legal status, and are regarded as almost revolutionary.
